Five-member team to visit JNTU-K

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: A five-member team of academicians led by Gujarat Central University Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.K. Kale is expected to visit JNTU-Kakinada next month to make an inspection and subsequently recommend to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for giving it recognition under Sec. 12 (B) of UGC Act, 1956, which facilitates extension of Central assistance to the varsity.

JNTU-K Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao has recently met UGC Chairman Prof. Sukhdev Thorat in New Delhi and made out a case for quick processing of the university’s requisition for Sec. 12 (B) approval which brings with it several other benefits in addition to Central funding. University Directors S. Srinivas Kumar and K. Padma Raju have also pursued the matter at a meeting with UGC Deputy Secretary S.C. Chadha. Besides, they had a meeting with All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Prof. S.S. Mantha in New Delhi for getting recognition of National Board of Accreditation (NBA). A team of NBA is scheduled to visit JNTU-K most probably in January 2010 at the instance of Prof. Mantha.

JNTU-K is also poised to get membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) for which a plea has already been made. Mr. Srinivas Kumar and Mr. Padma Raju have met AIU Secretary General Prof. Beena Shah for this purpose and their efforts are set to bear fruit soon.
