Paswan demands Ambedkar memorial at 26 Alipur Road

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan on Tuesday demanded that the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre re-develop the last resting place of B. R. Ambedkar and convert it into a grand memorial befitting the Dalit leader’s stature.

Last resting place

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Paswan said: “The last resting place of Dr. Ambedkar at 26 Alipur Road in the Capital needs to be re-developed into a grand memorial site so that people can go there and pay homage. The place is of great importance because he lived and breathed his last there. I seek support from political parties of various denominations on the issue. I’m sure the Government will agree.”

Indian Justice Party leader Udit Raj said: “Dr. Ambedkar was a messiah of the Dalits. However, no Dalit is aware of Alipur Road that lies in the heart of the Capital. Tragically, it is lying in a state of neglect. In 2003, the Government acquired this place from a private owner but it hasn’t done anything. ”
