MYSORE: The Mysore City Police have busted an inter-State gang allegedly involved in abduction, dacoity and vehicle thefts in Karnataka and Kerala. With the arrest of six members of the gang, the police said they have solved 19 cases, including 11 in Bangalore city and one in Kerala. Among the arrested persons, four are from Bangalore. The police gave the names of the arrested as Kishore (22) of RPC Layout in Bangalore; Mahendra (30) alias Ashok Shetty of Kodagu district; Charan (22) of K.G. Nagar, Bangalore; Hemanth M. (22) of New Kavika Layout, Bangalore; Murali (18) of Kunigal in Tumkur district; and Rajesh (21) of Byatarayanapura, Bangalore. Two cars, one motorcycle, Rs. 60,000 in cash and three mobile phones were seized from the arrested, according to the police. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had committed dacoity, extortion and vehicle thefts. The police said that Kishore, a cricketer, and Mahendra were heading two gangs and operating in Bangalore and Mysore. But they recently came together. Mahendra is also accused of murder and burglary. At a press conference here on Tuesday, Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal said the six were arrested following information from a gang of five, including two women, which was arrested here during “Operation Midnight” on the charge of attempt to assault and kidnap on November 19. He said six teams had been constituted to investigate the abduction of a man and his son from Kushalnagar, Mohan Kumar and Tushar, who had been released by their abductors. During the course of the investigation, the police obtained clues that the gang arrested on November 19 had connection with the kidnap of Mohan Kumar and Tushar. On further interrogation, the involvement of others in the case and also in other criminal activities in Mysore, Kodagu and Bangalore came to light. The car seized from the gang arrested on November 19 allegedly belonged to Kishore. The six arrested were involved in three cases of kidnap for ransom and eight cases of dacoity in Bangalore city; one case of kidnap and two cases of dacoity in Tumkur; one case of dacoity in Mandya; one case of kidnap and two cases of dacoity in Mysore and a case of dacoity and vehicle theft at Sultan Batheri in Kerala.
