KOCHI: Vineeth took five wickets conceding just four runs as Government HSS, North Paravur, crushed Global Public School (Thiruvaniyur) by 114 runs and entered the third round of the first Century all-Kerala schools cricket tournament at the St. Albert’s College Ground, Kaloor, on Tuesday. In another match, Tripunithura’s Sree Narayana Vidya Peetam defeated Al-Ameen (Edapally) by two wickets and entered the second round. The scores: Al-Ameen, Edappally 58 in 16.3 overs (Sumith three for 13) lost to Sree Narayana VP, Tripunithura 61 for eight in 12.2 overs (Sakeer Hussain four for 5, Ashiq Haider three for 17). Government HSS, North Paravur 150 for eight in 20 overs (Prasanth 47, V.R. Ajit 31) bt Global PS, Thiruvaniyur 36 in 15.1 overs (Vineeth five for 4). Inter-collegiateThe Aircel inter-collegiate Twenty20 cricket tournament will be held here from December 4 to 10. Jointly organised by the event management group Cross World Creatives, with the support of the Ernakulam District Cricket Association and with the approval of the Mahatma Gandhi University, the event will be held at three venues — Maharaja’s Stadium (the main venue), Tripunithura Palace Oval and the Ambalamugal BPCL Oval. “This is Kerala’s first collegiate tournament in the Twenty20 version,” said K.V. Bhaskaran, Operations Director, Aircel, at the event’s launch at Hotel Grand here on Tuesday. The tournament carries a prize fund of Rs. 3.75 lakh with the winner taking home Rs. 2 lakh. Sixteen colleges from all over the State will figure in the event which will be held on a league-cum-knockout format. “Some of the teams will have State players,” said former Kerala Ranji coach P. Balachandran, CEO of Cross World Creatives’ Sports Division and the tournament convener. The groupings: Pool A: MG College (Tvm), SKVC (Tsr), Devasom Board (Klm), Farook (Kzd). Pool B: St. Paul’s (Ekm), Govt Victoria (Pkd), SD (Alp), CMS (Ktm). Pool C: SH (Thevara), University College (Tvm), St. Albert’s (Ekm), NSS Hindu (Chgy). Pool D: St. Thomas (Tsr), Maharaja’s (Ekm), Mar Ivanios (Tvm), Mar Athanasius (Kothamangalam). — Principal Correspondent
