Namdhari XI in final

CHANDIGARH: Two penalty corner strikes by Harpreet Singh helped Namdhari XI bounce back after being down 0-1 to beat Punjab National Bank 2-1 in the semifinals of the Jindal Steel 46th Nehru hockey tournament here on Tuesday.

Yudhvir Singh put PNB ahead in the seventh minute. Harpreet equalised in the 23rd minute, by converting the team’s second penalty corner.

Namdhari XI clinched the issue in the 63rd minute when Harpreet found the target once again by converting the third penalty corner.

In the final, Namdhari XI will meet Indian Oil, which outplayed Army XI 5-1 in the other semifinal, after the teams were locked 1-1 at halftime.

Indian Oil owed its domination to Didar Singh who struck three goals including two off penalty corners.

Pritender Singh and Arjun Antil scored the other goals for Indian Oil. Eliazer Lakra scored the only goal for the Army team. — Special Correspondent
