Mohun Bagan picks Japanese midfielder

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan signed on Japanese midfielder Ryuiji Seuoka on Tuesday to fill up its Asian-player quota. Seuoka, who is an attacking midfielder, previously played in the Thai league for Bangkok United.

With several foreigners appearing for trials, Mohun Bagan decided to go for the Japanese medio on the recommendation of its coach Karim Bencherifa.

The coach has preferred to keep his attack options open since Brazilian striker Jose Barreto has been sidelined with injury.

Masters athletics

Around 700 veteran athletes will be seen in action in the silver jubilee State Masters athletics meet, which will be held at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium from November 27 to 29.

The qualifying age group starts from over 35, while there are 12 athletes who are aged over 80.

In all 234 events will be held in 10 age-group categories for men and nine age-group categories for women. A total of 14 districts will be participating in the three-day event.

Cossimbazar TT

Anirban Nandy of Howrah and Krittika Sinha Roy of South Kolkata will lead the challenge in the men’s and women’s categories of the Cossimbazar table tennis championship, which will be held at the Narkeldanga Sadharan Samity Club from Wednesday.

Around 260 players have confirmed their entries in 12 events, which will be spread over all age groups.

The finals will be held on Saturday. — Principal Correspondent
