VIJAYAWADA: The only way to usher in all-round development was to ensure equal distribution of human resources, said Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Parthasarathy on Tuesday.

“We have human resources in abundance and if put to proper use, development cannot elude us for long,” he said at ‘Listen To Us’, a convention of child and adult support groups organised by local non-governmental organisation Sanghamitra Service Society. Pointing out that the government had launched a slew of welfare measures for uplift of various sections of society, he said utmost care must be exercised to ensure that the benefits of these programmes reached the grass root level.

“I am personally against privatisation of the education sector. The government must take full responsibility of imparting education to every child,” he said.

The Minister commended the role of Sanghamitra Service Society in shouldering the responsibility of rooting out social evils. “In villages, social banes continue to paralyse developmental activity. It is here that these organisations can play a vital role in educating the masses,” he said.

Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu complimented the organisation for playing the lead partner in a novel project that was aimed at uplifting the social status of the HIV-infected and affected children by improving education and health facilities for them.

Main objective

Rebecca Harrison, Programme Officer for Learning for Life (LFL) and Chris Hough, a board trustee member of the UK-based sponsor of the project, expressed satisfaction over the effective functioning of the local NGO. Stating that the main objective of the project was to mainstream school drop-outs and provide them easy access to educational and health facilities, they expressed happiness over extending aid for such a noble cause.

The meeting was preceded by presentation of a mock Parliament session by young members of the child Parliaments constituted by the NGO.

K. Suhasini Devi, Project Director of Women Welfare and Child Development Department and others were present.
