KOCHI: The police arrested one person on charges of cheating people after promising them jobs in countries like Canada and Italy.

Manohar Gopal, 40, of Thrissur, was arrested on the basis of complaints that he cheated many after offering job visas.

His method was to advertise in news dailies, calling for applicants.

Those who responded would be made to believe that their visas would be stamped at Singapore.

The victims would then be taken to Singapore on visit visas, where the accused would collect the money and leave them stranded.

The polcie said that he had made nearly Rs. 50 lakh in this manner by cheating over 100 applicants over past seven years. He was arrested on the basis of a tip-off.
