RECURRING PROBLEM: Engineers of the corporation getting the water supply pipeline repaired on the main road at Kankanady on Tuesday. MANGALORE: The main road at Kankanady here was dug up again on Tuesday for the fourth time for repairing a water pipeline. Water was leaking from a 600-mm diameter asbestos-cement pipeline running between Karavali Circle and Lower Bendoorwell Circle Road on Monday. Mangalore City Corporation engineers repaired it on Tuesday. Earlier, the same pipeline burst on the same stretch on July 25 with water entering at least 30 shops in the vicinity. A two-MGD (million gallon litres a day) capacity cast-iron pipeline burst twice on the other side of the four-lane road on May 16 and May 26 at two different places on the same stretch. The leakage found on Monday was on the side where the pipeline burst on July 25. A junior engineer at the corporation told The Hindu that the leakage was found in the old pipeline. “There was a hole in it. It has been plugged and water supply resumed on Tuesday,” he said. The pipeline supplies water to Mangaladevi, Nandigudda, Valancia, and Jeppinamogaru areas. He said that he had prepared a proposal to lay a new pipeline from Kankanady to Mangaladevi and discard the 20-year-old one.
