Government scurries to appoint SP for ISD
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: The State Government has decided to strengthen the Internal Security Division (ISD), considered the most neglected security wing of the Karnataka Police, by posting sufficient number of staff and providing infrastructure.
To begin with, the State Government appointed Vikash Kumar Vikash as Superintendent of Police of the ISD on Tuesday. “Haveri SP Vikash Kumar Vikash has been transferred to ISD with immediate effect,” Ashok P. Atre, Under Secretary to Government, said in a release here on Tuesday.
Mr. Vikash Kumar Vikash’s appointment comes after The Hindu carried a special report on Tuesday about the pathetic status of the ISD, titled “State Internal Security a mere shell”, highlighting the woefully poor staff strength. Of the sanctioned strength of 757, the ISD had just 55 personnel, of who as many as 33 were “ministerial staff”.
The ISD was established by the State Government on December 13, 2008, in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, to combat terrorism, naxalism and other destructive activities in the State.
Incidentally, Home Minister V.S. Acharya convened a meeting of senior police officials on Tuesday and promised to strengthen the ISD, a senior police officer attached to the ISD told The Hindu.
