ROWING TO GLORY: St. Michael’s Academy, winner of the overall title, with chief guest K. Srikkanth. CHENNAI: St. Michael’s Academy won the overall title in the UNIFI Chennai school regatta 2009 which was conducted at The Rowing Centre, Koovathur. Chettinad Vidyashram finished second.
Eighty two participants from 25 schools vied for honours, including some from the Andamans, Kolkata, and Bangalore. The results: Boys: Under-18: Coxed fours: Anirudh Chandar, Shivendra Selvam, Vaishnavi and Sanjana Singh (Vidya Mandir); Single sculls: Anirudh Chandar (Vidya Mandir). Sub-juniors: Under-15: Double sculls: Joshna Ruthnaswamy, Tarun Nitin (Miles Marker Academy); Single sculls: Tarun Nitin (Miles Marker Academy). Under-12: Double sculls: Aditya Rao, Sanjay Gandhi (St. Michael’s Academy); Single sculls: G. Niranjan (Bala Vidya Mandir). Girls: Juniors: Under-18: Double sculls: Shruthi Kamath, Tarunika Pratap (Chettinad Vidyashram); Single sculls: P. Sankavi (DAV HSS). Sub-juniors: Under-15: Coxed fours: Semanthi Choudhury, Adrija Roy, Sampreethi Sen and Mandrita Trivedi (Carmel HS, Kolkata); Single sculls: Sankavi (DAV). Under-12: Single sculls: Aswathi (Chettinad Vidyashram).
