Aid for Tirupur ryots
R. Vimal Kumar
Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu Horticulture Development Agency (TANHODA) will give Rs 4.4 crore to help farmers in Tirupur district to increase profitability, productivity and the quality of horticulture crops through efficient irrigation practices.
Informed sources told The Hindu that the amount would come as subsidy to farmers to establish drip and fertigation systems covering about 700 ha of cultivated area.
“Subsidy will be subject to a maximum of 65 per cent of the total cost of a drip irrigation system as fixed by the government based on the lateral spacing of crops. The maximum area per beneficiary is 5 ha,” an official said.
A farmer would be entitled to subsidy provided he or she had not availed it for the system under any other government scheme for the same area.
“If subsidy has been already availed for less than 5 ha, the farmer will be entitled for subsidy under the scheme for the remaining extent,” Assistant Director of Horticulture P. Santhanakrishnan said. The office of the Assistant Director of Horticulture (0421-221470) will provide the details.
