Three women deliver triplets in Palani

MADURAI: Three women in their 30s have delivered triplets through test tube baby method done at a fertility centre in Palani last week. The three women -- Indira (38), Sivagami (35) and Mahalakshmi (36) -- delivered three babies each after they underwent artificial pregnancy technique at the Palani Balaji Fertility Centre in Palani.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, D. Senthamarai Selvi, infertility specialist, said that the three women went for fertility treatment in the same batch and got conceived in March. These women could not become pregnant in normal course because of myoma in uterus, hormone deficiency and high blood pressure. “We treated the three women in our hospital and suggested to them to go for test tube baby method. Last week, they delivered nine babies of which six were female and the remaining were male babies. It was a coincidence,” Dr. Selvi said. Stating that the hospital had a well-equipped fertility, test tube baby and endoscopy centre, she said that the women had to be handled with utmost caution as they were in high risk pregnancy category because of their age factor.

The birth weight of the babies was two kilograms and they are under medical supervision now. “It was a challenging task for us to see that they delivered the babies without any complications. We are happy that the women not only became mothers but also delivered three babies each in safe condition,” Dr. Selvi claimed.
