The month-long initiative by VLCC aims at equipping people with techniques to tackle the problem

VISAKHAPATNAM: VLCC beauty clinic observed Anti-Obesity Day on Thursday by launching a month-long anti-obesity drive.

The Anti-Obesity Day is an attempt to spread awareness about the adverse effects of obesity, its resultant medical ailments and to equip people with the correct techniques for effective tackling of the problem, said Tanuja Mishra, Centre Head of VLCC, at a press meet.

Booklet

The month-long drive will create awareness about the importance of a healthy living and the advantages of fighting obesity.

As part of its initiative, the fitness clinic has launched a booklet called ‘Fight Obesity – a guide to wellness’.

The booklet contains details about the health problems that can arise due to obesity and measures to tackle them.

‘Silent killer’

“The incidences of obesity-related health problems have doubled over the last decade,” said Dr. Dileep Kumar, HoD of Endocrinology, KGH. Branded as a silent killer, obesity has emerged as a serious health concern among urban Indians.

Nutritional modifications and regular physical exercise helps tackle problems like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, depression and cardiovascular diseases, he added.

VLCC has guided weight reduction programmes and tummy reduction treatments to tackle obesity.

“The treatment is an extensive one and is tailor-made to suit the specific requirements of an individual taking into consideration the person’s medical history and a host of other factors,” Tanuja Mishra said.
