Mitrovic rewrites discus world record; double for Rodomakina

BANGALORE: Drazenko Mitrovic of Serbia hurled the discus to a new world mark of 31.19m to better Chinese Fan Liang’s Beijing Games mark of 31.08 in the IWAS World Games athletics event at the Sree Kanteerava stadium here on Thursday.

Masayuki Higuchi of Japan made the gruelling 5,000m wheelchair race his very own with a start-to-finish effort, clocking 11:46.29s. Two years ago, in the Taipei edition of the Games, the 30-year-old Japanese had finished fifth.

Nikol Rodomakina of Russia had a golden double, winning the F46 class 100m in a time of 12.57s and the long jump with a leap of 5.45m.
