Spurious copper ballasts seized

MADURAI: The EIPR (Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights) Cell police, along with the Video Piracy Cell, CB CID personnel, Virudhunagar Unit, conducted raids at three places and seized counterfeit products of Crompton Greaves Company.

Following complaints of fake goods being sold in the market, the police conducted raids on three premises at Manamadurai, Paramakudi and Ramanathapuram. Based on confessions, the police team recovered over 500 counterfeit copper ballasts.

The names of the accused were given as Alagarsami (45), Mohammed Ali Thajudeen (40) and Solai Rajan (52). Following instructions from officers of the Video Piracy Cell, CBCID, Chennai, the raids were conducted by a team led by Anand Arokiaraj, Inspector of Police, Video Piracy Cell, CB CID, Virudhunagar Unit. The accused have been charged under Section 51 (b) r/w 63 of Copy Right Act.
