Manipal: The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) will be organising a national seminar on “Current trends in material science” here on December 2 and 3. It is being sponsored by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, and the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, Mumbai. Ashok Rao, Head of the Department of Physics, MIT, told presspersons here on Wednesday that material science had a vital role in the rapid advancements in microelectronics and optoelectronics. Noteworthy progress had been achieved in miniaturising integrated circuits, thus increasing circuit density at reduced cost. Extensive research and development activities were taking place on the study of materials, he said.
