Three sustain burns as gas cylinder explodes CriMe NOTES

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Three persons were injured, two of them seriously, when a leaking domestic gas cylinder exploded in a room in Sampangiramanagar 3rd Cross on Thursday.

Swastik Sen (38) of New Delhi, Shivakumar (25) of Mysore and Ramdass (32) of Mumbai, all working in a private courier firm, were staying a third-floor room.

After work, they cooked their food and went to sleep. When Mr. Sen switched on the light, the cylinder exploded.

He and Mr. Shivakumar were admitted to Victoria Hospital with 75 per cent burns while Ramdass is being treated in a nearby hospital. Most of the articles in the room were destroyed, the Sampangiramanagar police said.

Woman attacked

A 55-year-old woman was attacked when she tried in vain to prevent two persons from stealing valuables from her house in Nagarabhavi 2nd Phase Wednesday night.

According to Jnanabharati police, Indrani Murthy locked the house and went with her sister for an evening stroll.

On her return, she saw two men in balaclavas coming out of her house. Calling out for help, she caught hold of one while the other rushed to his motorcycle.

The man whom she caught wriggled out of Ms. Murthy’s clutches by hitting her on the head and scratching her neck and hands with a knife. The two sped away with Rs. 4 lakh worth of gold and silver ornaments.

Ms. Murthy has been admitted to a hospital.

Stolen

Gold ornaments and other articles worth about Rs. 2.25 lakh were stolen from the house of Manimekhala in Jyothi Nagar in Chandra Layout police station limits on Thursday.

The police said the thieves put their hand through an open window, unlocked the front door and went away with a gold necklace and other jewellery. Ms. Manimekala discovered the burglary in the morning.
