KCR seeks ‘media cooperation’

He does this a day after warning the media with ‘Shiv Sena-type attacks’

No move from government to address issues raised by TRS: KCR

Warns government against appointing an outsider as V-C of Telangana varsity

HYDERABAD: Reiterating his commitment to launch an indefinite hunger strike from November 29, Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao sought the support of well-wishers, sympathisers as well as the media for the sake of separate Telangana.

A day after warning the media with ‘Shiv Sena-type attacks’ if it did not stop publication of cartoons and caricatures ‘lampooning’ the statehood movement, Mr. Rao sought the cooperation of the print and electronic media in continuing the struggle for separate Telangana.

Mr. Rao who went ahead to announce his intentions of staging demonstrations in front of studios of news channels that were broadcasting news “belittling” the Telangana movement changed his stand claiming he was going ahead with his proposed hunger strike with ‘blessings’ from all including the media.

Claims support

The media, he said, was witness to the government’s moves to use force to quell his fast and reiterated his firmness in going ahead with his agitation. In an informal chat with reporters before leaving for Karimnagar on Thursday, the TRS president said there was ‘overwhelming support’ from all sections including intellectuals and students for his proposed fast.

The government, however, did not take any step so far to avert it.

There was no move from the government to hold discussions on the demands of the TRS and it was, instead, deploying large contingents of police to suppress the agitation. “We will continue our struggle for Telangana and the government will have to take responsibility for the consequences,” he said.

Issues warning

Meanwhile, the TRS warned the government against its reported moves to appoint an “Andhra settler” Vice-Chancellor of the Telangana University.

Suspecting the hand of Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders as well as “influence of money” behind the move, the TRS cautioned the government with ‘serious consequences’ if it went ahead with the appointment of non-locals.
