Free anti-rabies vaccination for all

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: The State government will make available anti-rabies vaccination free-of-cost to all in the State in two months, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has said.

Speaking after inaugurating the Intra-dermal Rabies Vaccination (IDRV) clinic at the Thrissur District hospital here on Thursday, she said only BPL families were getting the benefit now.

Special training had been provided to doctors and nurses on IDVR and the regimen introduced in 23 hospitals in the State.

“The IDVR will reduce the cost of vaccination considerably. It has proved more effective than the intra-muscular vaccination. It is shocking that many rabies deaths are being reported in the State,” she added.

The Minister also opened an infertility clinic on the district hospital premises. She said infertility clinics in government hospitals would be a boon to those who cannot afford such treatments in private hospitals.
