“It was Coast Guard, not Navy”

Special Correspondent

CUDDALORE: Superintendent of Police Ashwin M. Kotnis has clarified that the personnel involved in the recent assault on Thazhanguda fishermen on the high seas off the Cuddalore coast were attached to the Coast Guard and not the Indian Navy.

Soon after the fishermen related the incident to this correspondent on Wednesday the SP was contacted for checking the veracity of their statement. The SP said that he was under the impression that the personnel could have belonged to the Navy detachment stationed Puducherry. Later it was found that the Navy had no role in this episode.
