Bangalore: For non-profit organisation Bhoomi, food is sacred and a subject that is intrinsically linked to health and climate change. So, even as scientists are alerting the world about the risks of unhealthy food and chemical contamination, the group is organising a conference “to say no to processed food” in schools and colleges, and to demand the regulation of genetically modified foods. A two-day conference on December 4 and 5, “Be the Change Conference – Food, Health and Climate Change”, will bring together people who are passionate about this issue — educators, professionals from the corporate sector and non-profit organisations — to share their understanding and research findings. The speakers include Krishna Kumar, Director of National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT); Shekar Seshadri, Additional Professor at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS); T.S. Ananthu, Trustee of Navadarshanam; Vandana Shiva, founder-director of Navdanya and Foundation for Research in Science, Technology and Ecology; and Devinder Sharma, journalist and food policy analyst.
