Over 100 employees of PRTC take out rally

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Around 120 employees of the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) belonging to six unions went on a rally on two-wheelers, on Friday, to bring attention to their demands. The rally commenced at the PRTC Head Office and ended at the Legislative Assembly, where they presented a memorandum to Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam.

Some of their demands include allocation of funds to the corporation by the government, payment of salary arrears to employees as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission and the permission to borrow funds for the corporation to operate buses on new routes.

“The corporation does not get any funds. All running costs and maintenance works are carried out with the income generated,” said Velayyan, General Secretary of the PRTC Employees Union. “PRTC has not purchased any new buses for the last 15 years due to the lack of funds.”
