PANAJI: Konkani film “Poltodcho Monis” (Man beyond the bridge) directed by Goan film-maker Laxmikant Shetgaonkar will be commercially released in Goa in the next two weeks and in major metros of the country by early 2010. The film, which won the Film Critics’ Award at the recent Toronto Film Festival, will be released by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), which co-produced it. The “Indian Panorama” section of IFFI ’09 was launched by the film on Tuesday. The film will be screened at the Berlin Film Festival before its commercial release, Managing Director of NFDC Nina Lath Gupta said on Thursday. Elated that a Goan film had received the honour to launch the Indian Panorama section of the 40th IFFI, Mr. Shetagaonkar said the film would be released in Goa in the next two weeks. Speaking about his film, which revolves around life in a Goan forest and explores issues such as loneliness, religious repression and love, Mr. Shetgaonkar said: “Though this film is in Konkani, I do not think that language is important. The film is on a universal issue and cinema has its own language.” Refusing to accept that limitation of audience in Konkani would affect the film, the director said: “In the globalised scenario, people want a good cinema and they are not interested in which language it is.”
