NSG commandos pay tribute to slain comrades

MANESAR (Haryana): National Security Guard commandos on Friday paid tribute to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and Havildar Gajinder Singh, who sacrificed their lives during the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai last year.

The commandos laid floral wreaths and saluted the martyrs’ memorial at the garrison here.

Commanders of the anti-hijack, anti-terror and VIP security units also paid homage to the martyrs, an NSG officer said.

While Major Unnikrishnan lost his life at the Taj Hotel, Havildar Singh died during the operation at Nariman House. Both commandos belonged to 51 SAG of the elite counter-terror force.

The Ashok Chakra, the nation’s highest peacetime gallantry award, was presented to both of them.

The NSG ended the terror siege that lasted nearly 60 hours by killing eight Lashkar-e-Taiba militants. — PTI
