Facelift for rural roads in Krishnagiri district

KRISHNAGIRI: Five rural roads in the district would be repaired at a cost of Rs. 1.95 crore under the Prime Minister’s Grama Sadak Yojana VII.
Officials of the Krishnagiri Panchayat Union told The Hindu on Friday that these works commenced in July this year and would end in another two months. Road works totalling 13.6 km length was being undertaken and out of this 1.785 km length of road was being formed in KRP dam-Bantharapalli in Jinjupalli village at a cost of around Rs. 39 lakh.
The remaining four rural roads would be graded. The roads which are getting spruced up are Royakottai to Ballampalli 4.035 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 51.75 lakh; Thonnaiyankottai to Paraikottai 3.070 km (Rs. 54.53 lakh); Melkaradikuri to Malakuppam 1.070 km (Rs. 13.51 lakh) and Krishnagiri-Ranipettai road in Pappanerikottai village 2.800 km (Rs. 44.62 lakh).
All the old roads would be laid with blue metal, gravel and bitumen tar.
These road works were being undertaken by the Krishnagiri Panchayat Union and funds for the project were being provided through the District Rural Development Agency, the official added.
