BANGALORE: Women in eleven districts will embark on a padayatra and conduct a signature campaign to protest the “poor implementation” of the Domestic Violence Act in Karnataka, members of the Swaraj Network, an organisation fighting for violence against women and children, told presspersons here on Friday. Their demands include the appointment of a special officer at the taluk level to hear complaints filed under the Act, and allocation of separate annual funds for implementation of the Act. In Bangalore — where a majority of the participants will be garment workers — the rally will begin at 6 p.m. on November 28, from Peenya to Yeshwanthpur, said Sowbhagya E.G. Secretary of Swaraj Network. The padayatra will be conducted in Bangalore, Mysore, Kolar, Chikmagalur, Ramanagara, Bidar, Gulbarga, Hassan, Bellary, Udupi and Kolar. Ms. Sowbhagya said at the taluk level, the Child Development Protection Officer doubles as a Protection Officer, who is required to hear out complaints by women and liaison with the victim and the courts. “How can one officer be expected to do such an important task as a part-time job?” she asked.
