TIRUCHI: The Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai on Friday called upon universities to make the system flexible for multi-disciplinary pursuits with an open mind. Citing instances of the achievements of Nobel Prize winners in areas beyond their respective domains, Dr. Pillai cautioned that higher education will be in trouble if an ambience for independent learning is not created. “The emphasis must be on triumph of creativity over conformity,” he said addressing the 26th convocation of Bharathidasan University. As India undergoes unprecedented transformation in its educational processes, universities had a great role in facilitating such reforms. In the higher education sector, several reforms in enhancing the quantity and quality of education delivery were gradually happening. Changes indicate that a revolution which would change the contours of India’s education system was well and truly underway, Dr. Pillai said.
