Will ‘Yogi’ measure up to expectations?
S. Aishwarya
CHENNAI: Ameer-starrer Yogi, which hits the screens on Friday, has raised expectations by gaining entry into the Competition Category at Dubai International Film Festival.
The film, directed by Subramaniya Siva, is competing in the feature film category of ‘Muhr Asia Africa’, which is awarded as part of the film festival. “It is a surprise gift for us the day before the release,” says Mr. Siva. “The film was sent at the start of this month, but we never expected such an international acceptance. It has given a cushioning for us and we are confident that people would like this film. This is for the masses.” The film weaves in a story about an urban slum-dweller. Like his previous films, this would be a family entertainer with a thread of strong sentimental touch running throughout. “I believe film should not be categorised and should be made for all. Taking subjects for niche audience will turn us away from the rest. I am sure this film will be accepted by all segments, like my earlier films Ram and Paruthiveeran,” he said. He pairs up with Madhumitha in Yogi. Story is by Ameer, music by Yuvanshankar Raja, cinematorgraphy by R.B. Gurudev, editing by Ram Sudarsan and air direction by Jackie.
