CUTTACK: While the Police Commissioner B.K. Sharma has expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements for next month’s ODI to be played here at Barabati Stadium, the organisers of the match are worried over safety of the crowd and players for the December 21 India-Sri Lanka encounter. This time, the threat to the ODI has come from the same old inhabitants of the galleries – numerous honeybees. Gallery Nos. 7 and 8, the largest ones of the stadium, are now dotted with over a dozen large beehives. Recurring problem“We are aware of the problem. In fact, this is a recurring problem of the stadium and efforts are on to remove them and clean the galleries much before the international match,” said OCA secretary Asirbad Behera. As it is quite natural that the honeybees would again come back to the same location to form their hives within a month, we are thinking of removing the beehives only in the first week of December so that the problem would not recur before the match, Mr. Behera said. Previous experienceThe organisers had come across the same problem during the last India-England encounter at the venue in November 2008. Expert honey collectors from Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts had removed the beehives last time and the match went on smoothly. “We have got in touch with the same honey collectors who will be in the town much in advance to remove the beehives,” Mr. Behera added.
