KOZHIKODE: The Trissur-based Elephant Lovers Forum has taken strong exception to the decision of the Kerala Financial Corporation (KFC) to return to the owner Sreelakshmi, an elephant that had been under its care after the corporation seized properties of a resort in Kasaragod. KFC authorities here denied they had broken any rule. “From the private resort in Kasaragod, what we took over was only what had been hypothecated to the KFC … . This elephant was not in the list of properties that the KFC seized since it was not among the hypothecated goods… yet, the KFC spent money to look after the pachyderm as otherwise it would have starved, and also because it would have been a threat to local people if allowed to roam around for fodder, “ a KFC official said here on Saturday. Not satisfied with the way the KFC handled the case, the elephant lovers had submitted a memorandum to Forest Minister Benoy Viswom and the Director-General of the Ministry of Environment and Forest seeking a high-level inquiry into the incident, Mr. Venkitachalam, spokesman for the forum, said.
