VISAKHAPATNAM: They appeared like dots on the vast azure sky and within minutes blossomed into colourful canopies. Giving a glimpse of what is in store for the final day the eight-member sky diving team of the Indian Navy conducted their first rehearsal at the R.K. Beach on Saturday. Carrying the tri-colour flag and the naval ensign, the skydivers landed on the beach amidst loud cheer from the crowd gathered at the beach road. The team is all set to perform some breathtaking feats on the Navy Day on December 4.

They have enthralled the Vizag crowd each year with their immaculate performances without any hint of glitches. Descending like heavenly creatures from the skies above, the sky-divers with parachutes floating like bits of colourful paper, tactfully manoeuvre their ways through the forceful winds and land on the golden beaches with incredible precision.

“On the main day, one of the members will land on the podium to present the coffee table book to the chief guest,” said Cmdr Suresh Babu, a senior skydiver and member of the team.

The team would jump down from a height of 6,000 ft. on the main day from a Dornier aircraft. However, one of the important factors the skydivers will be watching out for is the weather and wind speed. High wind speed and low visibility factors are some of the hindrances for the daredevil team. “The wind will be an important factor to decide the directions,” Cmdr Babu said.

Highlights

One of the other highlights of the Navy Day will be the dazzling air show by the Sagar Pavans. The naval aircraft team will perform a variety of feats displaying the might of Indian Navy. The full rehearsal will be held on December 2.
