Censor board must monitor reality shows: Asha Parekh

PANAJI: Veteran actor and former chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Asha Parekh said on Saturday that the censor board should be strict about the language of some of the reality shows.

Addressing presspersons here on the sidelines of the 40th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Ms. Parekh, who was here to attend the retrospective in honour of “Celebration of 50 years of the glorious career of Asha Parekh”, said: “I believe censorship should begin at home, but I do find language of some reality shows offensive and objectionable and want the board to be cautious about it.”

Replying to a question about the desirability of the board for films, she said that with internet and mass media coverage expanding tremendously, the need for it was indeed there.

“But the real censorship should be implemented by parents at home. Why the parents should not forgo a film with ‘A’ certificate in the interests their children,” she asked.

Comparing today’s films with those of her era, Ms. Parekh said the technology had advanced tremendously and had become superior, however, content-wise because of globalisation, she wondered if “we have become too much of Angrezi”.
