FLEXIBLE: Participants performing yoga in Ramanathapuram on Saturday. RAMANATHAPURAM: The eighth national yoga championship and the first national yoga ranking cup began here on Saturday. Collector T.N. Hariharan inaugurated the competition at a function held at Syed Ammal Engineering College near here. He said it was good to see Ramanathpauram hosting the national event. It would generate interest among the people of the region on learning yoga. It had been clearly demonstrated that those who practise yoga were leading a healthy life. It was the best tool to synchronize mind with body. People irrespective of age and sex should take active interest in learning yoga. It would lead them to good life throughout their life span. Yaydeep Singh Jadhav, Secretary General, Yoga Confederation of India, Pune, A. Padmanaban, organizing secretary, Tamilnadu Yoga Sports Development Association, M. Mariappan, general secretary, Tamil Nadu Yoga Sports Development Association, M. Rakky, Indian yoga coach, P. Ramakrishnan, president, Lions Club, took part. More than 500 participants from different parts of the country came to Ramanathpauram. The competition will conclude on Sunday.
