“Start agro-based industries”

THENI: To develop industrial activities, concession in power tariff will be offered to small, tiny and medium industries, announced Collector P. Muthuveeran.

He was addressing a seminar on small, tiny and medium enterprises policy here on Friday evening.

Industrialists and budding entrepreneurs should come forward to start agro-based industries to utilise abundant availability of agriculture produces. Opportunity to set up fruit processing and grape wine making units, modern rice mills and cold storage facilities was bright, he added.

Reacting to an appeal made by readymade dress manufacturers and coir rope makers to lower power tariff, he advised industries to get EM part II certificate from District Industries Centre and submit it to the TNEB office to change the tariff system to 3 B from tariff system 5. A total of 5,500 industries will benefit with this change in tariff system.

Entrepreneurs will get loan up to Rs. 25 lakh to set up an industry under PMRY scheme. If they start industry in urban areas, they will get 25 per cent subsidy in bank loan, he added. Later, the Collector released a handbook for industrialists.

At present, 5,000 small, tiny and medium enterprises that offered direct jobs to 20,000 persons and indirect jobs to 30,000 persons and 15 middle and large size industries that provided direct and indirect jobs to 16,000 perons have been functioning in the district.
