KCR draws parallel with Gandhiji’s non-cooperation Rosaiah urged to persuade Sonia, for separate statehood

KARIMNAGAR: Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrashekhar Rao has reiterated that he would sacrifice his life for the cause of Telangana if the State government foils his fast-unto-death programme in Siddipet. “I am taking the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi and decided to launch a non-cooperation movement. We will bear the slaps and bashing but we will not retaliate. But, we will not be responsible for consequences if the government crosses its limits”, he told a press conference here on Saturday. He said that he would go ahead with his indefinite hunger strike programme as scheduled. “No one can stop my programme and I will continue my fast even if I am shifted to jail. No one can feed me forcibly in jail”. This was not a fake hunger strike programme, he added. Finding fault with the police for imposing prohibitory restrictions and arresting TRS rank and file in various parts of the region, he demanded their unconditional release. He also demanded the government to withdraw the police force in front of his house here and in Siddipet. “Why are the police resorting to repressive measures on what was aimed to be a peaceful agitation?”, he asked. He also sought to know the rationale in police arresting him as he had not violated law. Koora Rajanna heldMeanwhile, Janashakti leader Koora Rajanna was arrested in Medak on Saturday when he along with others was holding a ‘rasta roko’ defying the Police Act 30 in force. According to sources, Rajanna was addressing a meeting of TRS expressing solidarity with KCR’s proposed ‘fast’. Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao wanted Chief Minister K. Rosaiah to visit New Delhi and prevail upon Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister to carve out a separate Telangana State. He launched a tirade against TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu for lobbying support of national leaders of various parties on mining controversy at Obulapuram instead of addressing burning issues like Telangana statehood. Mr. Naidu should represent problems of all sections if he is truly the Leader of Opposition, he said. He could not ignore the plight of employees and weaker sections who lost their assigned lands in Telangana, Mr. Rao added.
