KPTCL is going to appoint 654 full-time junior engineers soon Contract engineers have reportedly been warned of termination after recruitment process is over Gulbarga: The future of about 254 junior engineers who are employed in Karnataka Power Transmission Company Ltd. (KPTCL) on contract for the past two years hangs in balance with the KPTCL going ahead with the recruitment of full-time junior engineers on merit basis. A spokesperson of the junior engineers working on contract The Hindu here on Sunday that KPTCL had not taken into consideration their appeal for regularisation of their service. Instead, he alleged that they had been told that their services would be terminated soon after recruitment process to appoint full-time junior engineers was completed. However, there have been instances in the past when services of junior engineers working on contract were regularised. In 2003, KPTCL regularised services of 1,200 junior engineers, 300 in 2005 and 250 in 2006. The affected engineers, who did not want to be named, said although they had the required qualification and experience, for reasons best known to KPTCL, a decision was taken to recruit 634 full-time junior engineers ignoring the appeal of the engineers working on contract for regularisation of their services. One of the junior engineers said that when they were recruited on contract, they had cleared the written and oral examinations. “Despite being paid Rs. 5,000 a month, we discharged our duty sincerely”, he said.
