VICTORIOUS BUNCH: The Viva Kerala team, which won the all-Kerala football tournament in Kochi on Sunday. KOCHI: Viva Kerala got past a fighting KSEB 1-0 in a volatile match and won the Navy Week all-Kerala football tournament at the Fort Kochi Parade Ground on Sunday night. Ghanaian Reuben Senyo struck Viva’s trophy-winner in the 18th minute which fetched the premier national I-League team the top prize of Rs. 1 lakh. Senyo just had to tap in a long offer from the left, from K.P. Anish, which fell right in front of him. The match was filled with incident and the players nearly came to blows a few times. And in the 65th minute, the KSEB captain and star striker P.K. Anilkumar was given the marching orders in the 65th minute when he struck Viva’s Marsook. It was Anilkumar’s second yellow this evening. Five other yellows were also flashed in the final. The march was close in the opening session but Viva looked superior in the second half. Reuben Senyo was adjudged as the best player of the tournament. Rear Admiral S.S. Jamwal, the Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, gave away the prizes. – Principal Correspondent
