VISAKHAPATNAM: Goods and Service Tax (GST) was described as ‘Sanjeevani’ to the world of business by Additional Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise M. Rama Rao here on Sunday. He was addressing an intensive workshop on Customs, Central Excise and GST, organised by the Integral Institute of Advanced Management. The workshop was organised with the objective to help executives derive clarity in the contours of GST by interacting with experts from the department, practicing consultants, accountants, students and management faculty and the public in general. Retired Commissioner of Customs SC Chowdhary and senior consultant G. Prabhakara Sastry, retired Superintendent of Customs and Central Excise B. Krishnaiah deliberated various issues and shared their views. According to Director of IIAM B. Parvathiswara Rao, GST has been a burning topic with robust speculation. GST also appears to be the flavour of the season and India was taking revolutionary steps to streamline taxation with the aim of becoming world leader, he observed. Taxation would be a catalyst for industrial growth entrepreneurship and services in the years to come, he felt. IIAM secretary SP Ravindra, Rafia Naz and others spoke.
