VIZIANAGARAM: Vizianagaram Pattana Pedala Samkshema Sangham on Monday demanded that the order issued for diversion of grants that were sanctioned for construction of additional accommodation in 13 schools in the town to schools in Kothavalasa, Gantyada, Poosaptirega, Garividi and other mandals be scrapped in the interest of poor children here. K. Ramachandra Rao, president and Reddy Sankara Rao, secretary of the sangham in a memorandum submitted to Collector G. Ram Narayana Reddy said that the government sanctioned Rs. 2.90 lakhs per school for construction of additional rooms in the fort town. Of the sum Rs. 1.80 lakhs was deposited in the schools account. Now, the Collector issued order for diversion of funds to schools in other mandals, they alleged. Mr. Sankar Rao said that the schools in the town lacked basic amenities and classes were being conducted in congested rooms in majority of schools. The diversion of funds would cause serious hardship to poor students, he said. He appealed to the Collector to start construction of additional rooms immediately.
