Bhopal: Leaders from the manual scavenging community on Monday rued that despite ban the practice is still prevalent in many parts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Though the Centre had in 1993 enacted a law to put an end to manual scavenging, it has not stopped, convener of the Maila Mukti Yatra Asif Shaikh said here. The campaign has been initiated by Garima Abhiyan, a social organisation working towards rehabilitation of the scavenging community to live with dignity. -- PTI
