Artistes enthral people at DD awards fete

HYDERABAD: It was a big night to remember for all the Doordarshan centres in the Country. The 9th Doordarshan annual awards ceremony, inaugurated by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, brought out stunning performances from artists, making it a visual treat for one and all. This State Capital was hosting the even for the first time and quiet fittingly it was a night to remember.

While, the DD staff members and award winners were in a joyful mood, audience in the jam-packed Shilpakala Vedika were mesmerised by striking dance performances by various artists. Manjula Ramaswamy and her dance troupe’s Chaturvidha Nrityavali, which is performed on mud pots left the audience awestruck. Kala Krishna and troupe’s Tandava Hela in Pereni dance form, popularly known as Warrior Dance drew a huge applause from the audience.

The annual awards of DD in 56 different categories are aimed at recognising and promoting in-house talent. Jalandhar Doordarshan Kendra’s programme ‘Jalwa’ was adjudged the Best Television Show while Chanda Sethani of Jaipur DD bagged the Best Serial and Soap Opera and Mumbai DD won the best DD Kendra award.

Andhra Pradesh though might not have won any awards in the creativity segment, Hyderabad Marketing Division bagged the Best Marketing Award and E. Mani Krishna Rao won the Best Exemplary work in programming.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah said despite huge competition from private broadcasters, DD has maintained its standard and quality. He also praised The Hindu for its authenticity. He said The Hindu was known for its accuracy and every news report published in the paper was genuine.

Doordarshan Director General Aruna Sharma and noted Telugu film actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao also spoke on the occasion. The programme will be telecast on DD National channel on December 13 from 9.30 p.m. onwards.
