MANGALORE: P. Shivashankar, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, has asked the principal of the Government Muslim Residential School in Thokottu to go on leave indefinitely after all the 140 students of the school boycotted classes on Monday. A senior teacher of the school will take charge as principal. P.A. Ganapathi, district Social Welfare Officer, told The Hindu that the school would be shifted to a new location within ten days. Students and their parents, led by the Students Federation of India (SFI), followed up the boycott by meeting the district Social Welfare Officer on Monday and presenting him with a list of complaints and demands for the betterment of the school. “Although the agitators demanded that principal Saina Banu be suspended, we have decided to place her on leave until the issue is resolved,” said Mr. Ganapathi. He said the charges levelled by parents and students were not of a grave nature as they pertained to inefficiency and not corruption.
