Big win for Hyderabad

VISAKHAPATNAM: Goa and Andhra forced draws against Tamil Nadu and Karnataka while Hyderabad recorded an innings win over Kerala in the round-robin matches of the Vijay Merchant trophy South Zone under-16 tournament here on Wednesday.

Goa, after following on, put up a brave fight and ended the final day with the last two wickets remaining.

Karnataka could only take a first innings lead over Andhra as the home team batsmen put up a good show. This included a 92-run stand for the sixth wicket between top-scorer Vikram Surya (83, 9x4) and B. Sivacharan Singh (67, 7x4) as Andhra replied with 374 against Karnataka’s 456 for six.

S. Gopal registered a five-wicket haul for Karnataka.

Kerala performed a little bit better than in the first innings before losing to Hyderabad.

The third round of matches commence on Friday.

The scores: Karnataka 456 for six decl. drew with Andhra 374 in 164 overs (Vikram Surya 83, K. Rajeev 72, B. Sivacharan Singh 67, Ashwin Hebbar 52 n.o., S. Gopal five for 106. Karnataka 3 points, Andhra 1 point.

Tamil Nadu 476 for 6 decl. drew with Goa 150 in 83 overs (Samar Dubashi 76) and 182 for seven in 86 overs (Srinivas Fadte 50, Darshan Mishal 46, Akashram three for 28). TN 3, Goa 1.

Hyderabad 388 bt Kerala 147 and 219 in 112.4 overs (Nitin Philip 52, Balu Babu 40, Iqlas Naha 36). Hyderabad 6, Kerala 0. — Special Correspondent
