MEO in ACB net

VISAKHAPATNAM: An MEO was caught red-handed by the ACB on Wednesday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe for the transfer of a teacher.

Vijayalakshmi, a teacher serving at Pendurthy, had completed eight years of service at Pendurthy. The DEO had issued her transfer orders. But the MEO, who was supposed to issue relieving orders, failed to do so. AP Teachers’ Federation leader Satti Babu sought issue of relieving orders as some other eligible teacher could seek a transfer to Pendurthy.

The MEO allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.5,000, but after some persuasion settled for Rs.3,000. Mr. Sattibabu informed ACB DSP Ramakrishna Prasad and a trap was arranged. The accused was caught red-handed by the DSP and his men Rajendra Rao and Srinivasa Rao, while he was allegedly accepting the bribe at a roadside dhaba near Madhurawada.

Fake certificates seized

Five persons were arrested by the City Task Force police in connection with a fake certificate scam at Gajuwaka on Wednesday.

The main accused B. Rama Suryanarayana was allegedly running a fake job placement agency in association with Ramakrishna Pradhan and S. Gouri Naidu at Gajuwuaka.

On a tip-off, CTF SIs Anand Reddy and Tirupathi Rao conducted a raid and found two students who reportedly paid Rs.10,000 each to obtain fake certificates.

They arrested the three main accused and the two students for seeking fake certificates. In all, 17 fake certificates were seized in the raid.

Held on cheating charge

A cheating case has been registered against the organiser of a private educational institute near Relli Veedhi on Wednesday.

The accused K. Venkata Prasad has been running the institute for the last 10 years after entering into a tie-up with some institutes in other states. He used to issue certificates till last year. The accused failed to get certificates from those institutes even after paying the requisite fee as some of them had closed down. Venkata Prasad closed his institute as his students pressurised him to either return the money collected or give them the certificates. The victims lodged a complaint with the police but the accused surrendered in court.
