Rohtang Pass opened to traffic

Shimla: Rohtang Pass, considered the gateway to the high-altitude Lahaul & Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, was on Thursday opened to traffic a little less than a month after its closure due to heavy untimely snowfall starting November.

The pass situated at a height of 13,050 feet has been opened for vehicular traffic 25 days after its closure, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Commander S. K. Doon said.

“It was a hurculean task to clear snow deposits along the 40 km stretch on both sides of the pass,” he said.

Officer Commanding Y. Praveen, who led the road clearance work, said, “A total of eight dozers, 35 BRO personnel and as many labourers worked overtime to accomplish the task.” –PTI
