Chief Minister to present awards on December 8

Thiruvananthapuram: Twelve government departments, institutions and public sector units have been shortlisted for the State award for the best e-governance initiative in various categories.

The Institute of Management in Government (IMG) received 33 nominations for the award in several categories — online services & e-filing, best web site, e-payment service, M-governance, Service and Payroll Administrative Repository for Kerala (SPARK) implementation, local language content development and maximum utilisation of Akshaya centres.

The 12 finalists were shortlisted by the award committee comprising the former Chief Secretary V. Ramachandran; Director of IMG Upendra Varma; Principal Secretary (IT) Ajay Kumar; and the former consulting editor of The Hindu Anand Parthasarathy.

The finalists are the University of Kerala, University of Calicut, LBS Centre, Regional Cancer Centre, Kerala Public Service Commission, IIITMK, Supplyco, Commercial Taxes, Motor Vehicles Department (Digital File Flow), Law Department (LIMS), Thrissur District and Palakkad District.

“e-Governance projects in various departments were started years ago when computer as a tool had not yet gained popular acceptance among the average government or public sector employee.

“From there on, some of these departments have successfully implemented highly visible citizen-friendly computerisation projects and the award will be a recognition and inspiration to government and public sector employees for their efforts in making these projects successful,” said Dr Ajay Kumar.

The award for Best e-Governance departments and organisations comprises a trophy and certificate. e-governance leaders will be awarded a medal and a certificate.

Three successful e-governance leaders will also be selected to present a conference paper in India or abroad on their e-governance initiative.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will present the awards at a function here on December 8.

Vishal Dhupar, CEO, Symantec South Asia, will be the keynote speaker at the awards function.
