Rebel candidates withdraw papers

Senior leaders spoke to them earlier

Dharwad: Four candidates withdrew their nomination papers filed for the election to the Legislative Council from the Dharwad Local Authorities’ Constituency comprising Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag districts. Senior leaders of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party were said to have spoken to their rebel candidates earlier.

Congress rebel candidate and the former president of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Subhas Kallappa Demakkanavar and BJP rebel candidate Gadigeppa Veerabhadrappa Kallaimani, Hemaraddi Chavaraddi and Jairduddin Dawalsab Ingalagi, both Independents, withdrew their papers.

Now, eight candidates have remained in the fray for the Council election. They are M.R. Patil and Shivaraj S. Sajjanar (BJP), Srinivas V. Mane (Congress), D.M. Sali (JD-S), Fakkirappa B. Bhimakkanavar (JD-U), Halappa D. Timmenahalli, Nagaraj M. Mamaradi and Paramesh S. Kale (all Independents).
