Jithu puts Thrissur in last eight

KOCHI: P.E. Jithu struck twice as Thrissur blanked Kollam 3-0 and entered the quarterfinals of the Kerala State under-14 inter-district football championship at the Government High School Ground (Panampilly Nagar), Kochi, on Saturday.

In other pre-quarterfinal matches, Pathanamthitta, riding on M.H. Harish’s two goals, defeated Alappuzha 4-1, Kannur edged out Thiruvananthapuram 4-3 while Kozhikode blanked Idukki 3-0.

The results: Thrissur 3 (P.E. Jithu 13th & 43rd, Jibin Devassy 34th) bt Kollam 0.

Kozhikode 3 (Devaraj 24th & 36th mins, Miswar Ali 39th) bt Idukki 0.

Kannur 4 (Shahasad 22nd & 27th., V.K. Aswin 33rd, Varun 35th) bt Thiruvananthapuram 3 (Rohit Bhaskaran 4th, R. Ajin 10th, M. Rahul 48th).

Pathanamthitta 4 (Yadhu Krishna 16th, M.H. Harish 27th & 46th, Premraj 49th) bt Alappuzha 1 (Ribin Benny 44th).

Sealine Santos in final

Sealine Santos (Fort Kochi) edged out Bolghatty Footballers 2-1 and entered the final of the 26th C.H. Mohammed Koya memorial football tournament at the Fort Kochi Parade Ground on Saturday evening.

Nithin gave Bolghatty the lead in the third minute but R. Amal scored the Santos equaliser in the 21st minute and Arun netted the match-winner in the 77th.

There will be no match on Sunday and on Monday, Santos meets India Gateway Terminal, Willingdon Island, in the final. — Principal Correspondent
