Kalpakkam reactor reaches a milestone

CHENNAI: The Main Vessel of the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam was lowered inside the Safety Vessel and aligned early on Saturday.

The equipment forms the heart of the reactor. It was manufactured to great precision, achieving extremely stringent tolerances, at the PFBR site itself, says a release from the Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd., Kalpakkam.

The Core Catcher and the Core Support Structure were already integrated with the Main Vessel when lowered in the Safety Vessel. With this, the PFBR reached a major milestone, the release said.
